More students complete Diageo hospitality training at Ayrshire College

A further twelve students are now equipped with the required skills to embark on careers in the hospitality industry, following their successful completion of Diageo’s Learning for Life programme at Ayrshire College.

Their achievements were celebrated during a special ceremony held on Monday 22 July in the College’s Salt & Barrel restaurant at the Kilmarnock Campus.

The celebration marks the 21st Learning for Life programme to have taken place in association with Ayrshire College since November 2014.

As part of the six-week training programme, the group attended the Diageo Bar Academy which included a cocktail masterclass, wine tasting at Corney & Barrow, a visit to Kirkoswald Whisky Experience and lunch at Arthur Street Kitchen, Ayr.

The students also undertook two weeks of work experience with some of Ayrshire’s leading restaurants, hotels and bars, including: The Riverside Lodge, The Waterside, Seamill House Hotel, Arthur Street Kitchen, Lido, as well as Ayrshire College’s two training restaurants, to gain vital on-the-job experience and learn from industry experts.

So far 6 of the students have secured local employment within the hospitality industry.

Pauline Scott, Ayrshire College’s Learner Engagement Officer for Diageo Learning for Life, said: “Our students worked incredibly hard over the last six weeks, and we are proud to celebrate their achievements today. It’s been wonderful to watch their progress throughout the programme, and to see their skills and confidence grow.”
