Ayrshire youngsters enjoy free football at Ayrshire College

Ayrshire College and the Kilmarnock Community Sports Trust (KCST) worked together to deliver free football sessions for 5-12-year-olds last week.

The KCST Ayrshire College Summer Camp kicked off at the College's Kilmarnock Campus on Monday 5 July, and culminated in a football tournament for the participants on Friday.

From 10am to 1pm, over 80 kids attended the football camp and were treated to free lunches.

They were also treated to a masterclass in coaching from Ayrshire College Sports Coaching and Development students, who were all too happy to run the sessions following a tough year for football coaching opportunities.

Ayrshire College regularly delivers football and other sport sessions when restrictions allow, in partnership with KCST, Active Schools and Vibrant Communities as part of its Connecting Communities initiative.

Recently the Rose Reilly Football Centre got back up and running at the Kilmarnock Campus, giving young girls in Ayrshire the opportunity to take part in free football sessions.

John McTaggart, Curriculum Manager for Sport & Fitness at Ayrshire College, said: “The strength of this Connecting Communities initiative is bringing all the partners together to create quality coaching opportunities for our students whilst providing free physical activity to a variety of client groups. This enables our students to work in environments that will be so beneficial to their personal and professional development. Our community partners are fully invested in this and will be able to offer support and advice to our students who could be future employees of our partners.”
