College students elect new Student Association team

Ayrshire College students have voted online to determine who will be the Ayrshire College Student Association’s next Student President and Student Vice President.

Ellie Jamieson - the current Student President - will continue in her role from July 2022 and will be assisted by the new Vice President-elect, Robert Kean.

Robert recently returned to Ayrshire College as an evening class student after undertaking a degree in Health and Social Care at the University of the West of Scotland.

Both roles are full-time, paid positions. Ellie and Robert will work together for the 2022/23 academic year, with Robert having the opportunity to stand for a second year in the 2023 elections.

Charlotte Mitchell, Student Association Advisor at Ayrshire College, said “The Student Association is an integral part of the process of feedback and improvement within the college, and Ellie, having been involved with the association for several years, has a proven track record of working with college management to ensure the best possible student experience.

“Robert brings a whole new set of skills and experiences to the team and as a mature student will be a great advocate for many of our students who return to education after being away from it for some time. I have no doubt that together they will build on the success of this year’s team to deliver an effective programme of representation and support in 2022/23.”

Ellie said “It’s great to have the elections behind us so that I can get on with my role in supporting and speaking for students across the college. I am looking forward to working with Robert over the next academic year to ensure that we build upon the success of our clubs and societies, our male mental health support and, of course, ensuring that students are effectively represented and have a voice in the decisions that affect them.

“With the restrictions of the past two years lifted and our plans to have lots of on-campus activities, it’s shaping up to be an exciting year ahead.”
