Site visit to Garnock Visitor and Community Hub for college joinery students

Ayrshire College students from the Level 4 Pre-Apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery course were recently treated to a site visit to Garnock Visitor and Community Hub.

CCG (Scotland) are leading the construction of the site on behalf of North Ayrshire Council in partnership with hub South West, and are working towards a formal opening later this year.

CCG (Scotland)’s Trainee Assistant Site Manager Thomas Maguire gave the college students the tour, where they bumped into fellow student Liam MacRae. Liam is studying the Level 5 Pre-Apprenticeship course and is currently enjoying a work experience placement with the company.

The students, who are based at the Nethermains Campus in Kilwinning, watched as Liam helped to hang a door alongside his allocated tradesman. They were also given the opportunity to ask Trainee Assistant Site Manager Thomas questions about the site and about working with CCG (Scotland).

David Bell, Carpentry & Joinery lecturer at Ayrshire College, said: “I’d like to say thanks to Thomas for giving our students a fantastic tour. He was very informative and showed his vast knowledge of the site and the construction industry. All in all, it was a brilliant experience for our students, who are all now desperate to experience a work placement like this one.”
