Ayrshire College is apprentice provider of choice for leading wind turbine company

Vestas, one of the world’s largest wind energy companies, has indicated its intention to use Ayrshire College as its preferred Scottish partner for engineering apprenticeships from 2023-24 onwards.

Vestas is the energy industry’s global partner on sustainable energy solutions. They design, manufacture, install, and service wind turbines across the globe, and with +164 GW of wind turbines in 87 countries, have installed more wind power than anyone else.

Through their industry-leading smart data capabilities and +144 GW of wind turbines under service, Vestas use data to interpret, forecast, and exploit wind resources and deliver best-in-class wind power solutions. Together with their customers, Vestas’ more than 28,000 employees are bringing the world sustainable energy solutions to power a bright future.

This major announcement further demonstrates the confidence that the renewable energy sector places in Ayrshire College, with a growing number of global organisations from the wind turbine industry currently working in partnership with the College.

Vestas' apprenticeship arrangement with Ayrshire College will start from August 2023 and is intended to see 12 students completing two years of learning at the Ayr Campus, followed by on-the-job training with Vestas.

Stuart Millar, Head of Apprenticeships and Work Based Learning at Ayrshire College, said: "We are delighted that Vestas has identified Ayrshire College as its preferred apprenticeship partner. This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to forge a successful career with a large global company while helping Scotland achieve its net-zero targets and a low carbon future."

Keith Wallace, Senior Director - Onshore Service Region UK and Ireland at Vestas, said: ”We have been really pleased with the support received by Ayrshire College as we look to develop a partnership for the future. The UK is an exciting market for the renewables industry and it’s therefore important that we collaborate with such capable organisations to develop the technical skills needed to be ready for the next phase of growth.”
