Ayrshire College has been named in the Scottish Government’s Offshore Wind Action Plan for its role in early development work around a proposed Scottish Wind Technician Education Centre. The plan outlines Scotland’s ambition to deliver up to 50GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. It identifies the development of a Scottish Wind Technician Education Centre as a key action to help expand Scotland’s capacity in Global Wind Organisation (GWO)–accredited training and create a stronger pipeline of wind technicians to meet industry demand.
Ayrshire College and Energy Innovation, a Norwegian Training, Education, Research and Development Centre, are named as partners exploring this proposal. This early work will support the design of future opportunities for learners across Scotland as the renewable energy sector continues to grow. For Ayrshire, the recognition sits firmly with the region’s long-standing strengths in engineering, manufacturing and innovation. It highlights the potential for new skills pathways, broader training opportunities and future roles linked to Scotland’s transition to a cleaner energy economy.
Angela Cox, Principal and CEO, said: “Being named in the Offshore Wind Action Plan reflects the strength and ambition of Ayrshire College to play a leading role in Scotland’s renewable future. We welcome this recognition and look forward to progressing the work now underway.”
A formal agreement for the proposed centre is in development, with initial training modules scheduled for delivery in 2026.
