Ayrshire College was delighted to welcome 23 new first-year plumbing and heating apprentices, who have recently begun their journey towards an SVQ qualification. These apprentices, from many local employers, are part of the College’s ongoing commitment to developing a skilled workforce in the construction and building services sector.
On Wednesday, 30 October 2024, Ayrshire College brought together over 40 senior and aspiring leaders from across Ayrshire for a Women’s Leadership Lunch at the Westerly Restaurant on its Ayr Campus. Building on the success of the College’s International Women’s Day event in March, the lunch provided an opportunity for local leaders to reflect on their journeys, share insights, and discuss the future of leadership in Ayrshire.
Ayrshire College welcomed Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes for a high-profile visit to the College’s Aeronautical Engineering Training Centre, showcasing Ayrshire College’s pivotal role in building a skilled workforce to support Scotland’s aerospace industry and beyond.
Oliver Mundell MSP visited Ayrshire College’s Kilwinning Campus to tour the Willie Mackie Skills Hub, a state-of-the-art facility made possible through funding from the Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS), the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), North Ayrshire Council, the Ayrshire College Foundation and the Scottish Funding Council. The visit marked one year since the Hub’s official opening and provided an opportunity to reflect on how this significant investment has contributed to skills development in North Ayrshire.

Ayrshire College is delighted to announce its new role as the accrediting body for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) FireSkills course, a programme designed to equip hundreds of young people across Scotland with crucial life and employability skills.
As part of Challenge Poverty Week 2024, Ayrshire College brought together students, the Student Association, and key external partners like Thriving Communities and RAMH (Recovery Across Mental Health) to discuss how the College is supporting students facing financial and personal challenges. The day provided an opportunity for honest conversations about the barriers students encounter and the ways in which the College’s services are making a difference.
On Thursday, 10th October 2024, Ayrshire College welcomed leaders and experts from the aerospace, engineering, and advanced manufacturing sectors to its Kilmarnock Campus. The event, held in collaboration with Scottish Engineering and the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), officially marked the College’s membership with both organisations and reinforced its commitment to advancing engineering skills development in Ayrshire.
