Building confidence through sport

Evie chose to study an HNC Sport and Physical Activity at Ayrshire College alongside her S6 studies, combining her passion for sport with the opportunity to develop skills and experience for university and her future career.

She particularly enjoyed the practical side of the course, working with others who shared her interests and putting her learning into practice.

Pushing outside her comfort zone

One of Evie’s biggest achievements was the confidence she developed throughout her time at college.

Delivering coaching sessions, making presentations and working with different people encouraged her to push herself outside her comfort zone. She also learned to manage her time effectively while balancing the demands of her HNC with her S6 exams.

The experience helped her become more organised, independent and confident in taking responsibility for her own work.

Learning through experience

For Evie, some of her favourite memories came from the practical sessions and activities she took part in throughout the course.

These gave her the chance to take a break from classroom-based learning, have fun with her classmates and build lasting memories.

She also credits her lecturers, Marion and Kirsty, for their support and encouragement, which helped her grow in confidence and overcome challenges.

What's next?

Evie is now progressing to the BSc Sport and Physical Activity at the University of Strathclyde.

Her long-term ambition is to complete a PGDE and begin her probationary year as a PE teacher, combining her passion for sport with a career supporting young people.
